How Much Does Perplexity Cost in 2026? Full Pricing Guide

Perplexity costs $0 for the Free plan, $20 a month for Pro ($17 a month billed annually), and $200 a month for Max ($167 a month billed annually). Teams pay $40 per seat a month for Enterprise Pro and $325 per seat for Enterprise Max. Verified students pay $10 a month for Education Pro. The API is billed separately, by usage.
I also found two things most guides skip. The Sonar API request fee costs more than the tokens, and about half of the $200 Max price comes back as credits if you actually use Computer. Both are explained below.
Type “how much does Perplexity cost” into Google and the answers do not agree. One page says $20. Another says $17. A third says $200.
They are all right. That is the problem.
Perplexity is not one price. It is six plans, a pay-as-you-go API, and a credit system on top. So I went to Perplexity’s own pricing page and API docs, then checked them against the guides that rank. Not a random list of prices, but a real answer on what you will pay and who each plan is for.
Perplexity AI Pricing at a Glance
Let me keep this plain. Here is every plan in one table.
Plan | Monthly price | Billed annually (per month) | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
Free | $0 | $0 | Quick questions with cited answers |
Pro | $20 | $17 ($200 a year) | Daily research |
Max | $200 | $167 ($2,000 a year) | Heavy research and Computer tasks |
Education Pro | $10 | Not listed | Verified students and educators |
Enterprise Pro | $40 per seat | $34 per seat ($400 a year) | Teams that need admin controls and SSO |
Enterprise Max | $325 per seat | $271 per seat ($3,250 a year) | Large teams with heavy usage |
All prices are in US dollars, and I checked them against Perplexity’s official pricing page in October 2026.
The annual billing discount is about 17%. Paying yearly saves $40 on Pro, $400 on Max, $80 per seat on Enterprise Pro and $650 per seat on Enterprise Max.
The API is not in this table. It is billed separately, and I cover it further down.
Perplexity Free vs Pro: Is the $20 Upgrade Worth It?
What the Free plan gives you
The Free plan costs $0. You get search with citations in every answer, access to basic AI models, and limited daily usage. For simple questions, that is enough.
How much is Perplexity Pro?
The Perplexity Pro price is $20 a month on a monthly subscription, or $200 a year. With the annual billing discount, that works out to about $17 a month.
For that money you get Deep Research and higher limits on Pro Search queries, access to top AI models, and the option to pick a preferred model for each query. You also get more usage limits and memory, Computer access with 4,000 bonus credits listed on the pricing page, premium data sources such as PitchBook and Statista, Model Council, and the ability to build polished documents and apps.
Behind the scenes, Perplexity uses multi-model orchestration. It picks from models such as OpenAI ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, NVIDIA Nemotron and its own Sonar for each query. Features like Spaces and Pages then help you organise and publish what you find.
Is Perplexity Pro worth it?
Think of Free as a taste and Pro as the full meal.
Pro is worth it if you use Perplexity several times a week for research, writing or coding help, you hit the Free limit often, or you want to choose the model yourself.
Free is enough if you ask a few questions a week and mostly want a cited answer.
My advice is simple. Start on Free. If you hit the limit twice in one week, go to Pro on monthly billing for a month. Only switch to the annual plan, and the $40 saving, once you know you use it.
Perplexity Max Pricing: For Heavy Researchers
How much is Perplexity Max per month?
Perplexity Max costs $200 a month, or $2,000 a year, which is about $167 a month on annual billing.
It is everything in Pro with higher limits on Deep Research, asset generation and file uploads. You also get advanced reasoning models, priority access to new features, and several Model Council runs a month. The pricing page lists 10,000 Computer credits every month, plus 35,000 bonus credits.
The part most guides skip: credits
Think of Computer credits like data on a phone plan. The plan includes an amount. When it runs out, you top up or you wait.
Perplexity values 100 credits at $1, according to its billing documentation. At that rate, the 10,000 monthly credits in Max are worth about $100. So if you really run Computer tasks, around half of your $200 comes back as usable credit. If you never touch Computer, you are paying mostly for higher limits.
Who needs Max?
Max makes sense if you reach your Pro limits every week, run Computer tasks often, or do Deep Research all day. For everyone else, Pro is the better deal. The jump from $20 to $200 is ten times the price, and the jump in what most people use is far smaller.
Perplexity for Teams: Enterprise Pro and Enterprise Max
Perplexity enterprise pricing is per-seat pricing. You pay for every person on the team, every month.
Enterprise Pro: $40 per seat a month, or $400 a year.
Enterprise Max: $325 per seat a month, or $3,250 a year.
Here is what that looks like for a team of 10 on annual billing. Enterprise Pro costs $4,000 a year. Enterprise Max costs $32,500 a year.
Perplexity Enterprise Pro vs Max
Enterprise Pro | Enterprise Max | |
|---|---|---|
Price | $40 per seat a month | $325 per seat a month |
Annual billing | $400 per seat | $3,250 per seat |
Computer credits | 500 a month | 15,000 a month |
Admin controls and single sign-on (SSO) | Yes | Yes |
SCIM, audit logs and data retention controls | No | Yes |
Advanced reasoning models and Model Council | No | Yes |
File limits | Standard | Higher |
In plain words, Enterprise Pro is Pro with admin and security controls, such as SSO and shared Spaces. Enterprise Max is for teams that need the highest limits plus tighter governance.
One more thing. Education institutions and non-profits can get Enterprise Pro for $30 per seat a month, so ask before you pay full price.
Seat prices rarely tell the whole story. I broke down the same problem in my guide to GitHub Copilot Enterprise pricing, where a 39 dollar seat has a real floor of 60. Always count credits and extras before you multiply by headcount.
Perplexity Student Discount (Education Pro)
There is a real Perplexity student discount. It is called the Education Pro tier, and it costs $10 a month for verified students and educators.
That is half the monthly Pro price. Over a nine-month school year, Education Pro costs $90, against $180 on monthly Pro.
Here is how to get it:
Open the upgrade page and choose the Education option.
Verify as a student. The check runs through SheerID.
Confirm the $10 price on the checkout page before you pay.
Education Pro includes everything in Pro, plus education features such as Learn Mode. A few things to watch:
It is discounted, not free. Perplexity has run free-year student promotions in the past, but the published price today is $10, so check the checkout page.
If SheerID rejects you or a payment fails, the plan may not activate.
Reports say the discount does not apply to a subscription you bought through the Apple App Store, so check before you pay.
Some schools already give students Pro seats. Free beats $10, so ask your school first.
Perplexity AI API Pricing (Sonar API Cost)
The API is separate from every subscription. Pro and Max do not include API credits. The API Platform uses its own usage-based billing, charged in API tokens and requests.
There are four main products: Sonar, the Search API, the Agent API and the Router API. Let me start with the one most people ask about.
Perplexity Sonar API cost
Sonar is Perplexity’s own search-grounded model family. Each call has two parts to the bill: tokens, and a request fee that depends on search context size.
Model | Input per 1M tokens | Output per 1M tokens | Request fee per 1,000 requests (low / medium / high context) |
|---|---|---|---|
Sonar | $1 | $1 | $5 / $8 / $12 |
Sonar Pro | $3 | $15 | $6 / $10 / $14 |
Sonar Reasoning Pro | $2 | $8 | $6 / $10 / $14 |
Sonar Deep Research is billed differently. It charges $2 per million input tokens, $8 per million output tokens, $2 per million citation tokens and $3 per million reasoning tokens, plus $5 per 1,000 search queries.
Many guides quote Sonar at $1 per million tokens and stop there. That is only part of the bill. Here is a simple example.
Take one Sonar call with 1,000 input tokens and 1,000 output tokens at low context. The tokens cost about $0.002. The request fee adds $0.005. The total is about $0.007, so 1,000 calls cost about $7. Most of that is the request fee, not the tokens.
The other API products
Search API: $5 per 1,000 requests, or $1 per 1,000 with Fast Search. There are no token charges.
Agent API: you pay each model’s published token rate, plus tool fees. A standard web search tool call costs $0.0025.
Router API: you pay per token at the model’s rate, with no per-request fee.
API rates change often, so check the live Perplexity API docs before you budget.
Which Perplexity Plan Should You Pick?
If you only ask a few questions now and then, stay on Free. If you research, write or code every day, Pro at $20 a month is your plan, and students and educators can get the same thing for $10 with Education Pro. Max at $200 a month is for people who run Computer tasks all day. Teams that need SSO and admin controls start at Enterprise Pro, $40 per seat, and large teams with heavy usage and strict governance move up to Enterprise Max at $325 per seat. If you are building an app, skip the subscriptions and use the API, billed by usage.

My Verdict
If you only want cited answers now and then, Free is enough. For most people who use Perplexity every week, Pro at $20 a month is the right plan.
Max is a tool for a small group of heavy users, and half of its price comes back only if you use the credits. Teams should count seats and credits before they sign.
Pick the plan for the work in front of you. That is the whole answer.
